Biografie
Jeroen van Dillen is Gynaecologist at the UMC St Radboud, the Netherlands.
From 1990 – 1998, he studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During his studies he was engaged with malaria research in Kenya (1993), participated in a research project in Bangladesh (1995) and worked as a junior resident in a rural hospital in Kenya (1996). Working in these low income countries infected him with the ‘african virus’ and inspired him to have an ectoscopic view on health care. From 1999-2001 he trained to be tropical doctor. In februari 2001 he went for 3 years to Namibia where he worked at the department of obstetrics and gynaecology of the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital, Oniipa, Namibia.
From 2004 – 2010 he did his specialty in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Leiden University Medical Center. In 2009 he got his PhD at the Free University Amsterdam; thesis ‘Obstetric audit in Nambia and the Netherlands’. This thesis is a warm and strong promotion to apply the obstetric audit in daily practice: ‘Audit deserves an important place in (Dutch) obstetrics. Quality improvement is mostly possible without large changes in the system, particularly by optimalizing existing directives and the implementation of it’.
In January 2011 until present he resides as medical manager delivery rooms and the department of obstetrics at the UMCN St Radboud. He is engaged as secretary of the regional collaboration obstetric professionals (VSVNO), chair of the local perinatal audit committee and chair of the departmental quality care committee. His local, national and international ambitions are: quality improvement in obstetrics and reducing unnecessary interventions by promoting operational research and audit. In addition he is engaged in evaluating patient centredness options in obstetrics where he collaborates with midwives and gynaecologists. Finally he is board member of the Working party internationsal Safe Motherhood and reproductive health (NVOG, NVTG).
